An an entrepreneur and HR professional, I find myself in many situations where I am meeting new people. In the past, this created an uncomfortable situation for me, more often than not. I can remember many times, being at a conference or large meeting and using the break time to do work or anything else that would help me to avoid initiating a conversation with a stranger. I often admired others who seemed to walk into a room with relative ease, knowing no one and could leave the same room knowing many.
But my experience has changed and while there are some days where it may still not be easy, I have found my way to a viewpoint that makes networking interesting and sometimes, even fun. Yes, I did say fun! So, how did this shift occur? I changed my perspective. The most effective advice on networking that I have found is articulated expertly by Jodi Glickman in her article, “Confession of a Networking Pro“.
